I had an alarm last time the boat was taken out. found out it was low oil pressure. hooked up a gauge and at idle its only 5psi the pressure rises when revved up but is not holding steady.
is there anything i need to check other then replacing the oil pump? i changed the engine oil and filter just to see if that did anything and it did not.
so before i get too deep into this i wanted to check with you guys to see if there is anything else i need to look at first
thanks

Four stroke engines are lubricated by the oil pump. Low oil pressure is rarely a problem with the oil pump but rather an issue with excess wear in the cam, rod and/or main bearings. Changing an oil pump rarely returns an engine to proper oil pressure. Make sure the gauge you are using is accurate and that it is a tube fed (mechanical) rather than an electrical gauge. This eliminates a bad sender as the cause of low oil pressure.

I have only replaced one of these and its really a simple job, drain oil and remove bolts and lift power head. Replace pump and reinstall. About a hour job and order/use a new metal gasket.
