Selected CFR 40 Section 1060 Requirements (for portable marine fuel systems)
? All marine fuel kits manufactured after 1/1/2009 must use low permeation fuel lines.
? Permeation emissions must be under 15g/m2/day when measured according to test procedure described in CFR 40 section 1060.515 (also must meet labeling requirements)

? All equipment (fuel tanks) must have a tethered fuel cap. Fuel caps must also include an audible or other physical indication that they have been properly sealed
? Portable marine fuel tanks and associated components must meet the following requirements;
1. They must be self-sealing (without any manual vents) when not attached to an engine. The tanks may not vent to the atmosphere when attached to an engine.
2. They (fuel tanks) must remain sealed to a minimum of 5psi. They may contain air inlets that open when there is vacuum pressure inside of the tank.
? All fuel tanks manufactured must be of low-permeation construction.
? Permeation emissions from fuel tanks may not exceed 1.5g/m2/day.

? All marine primer bulbs manufactured after 1/1/2011 must be low permeation construction.
? Same permeation requirements as marine fuel lines

If you have an fuel components that are weather-checked, old or may need to be replaced within the next year, I recommend that you buy them now while retailers still have inventory.
After 1/31/10, manufacturers have to ship low permeation components and they will be significantly higher in cost than the current products.
