Hello folks,
My friend recently bought a 17 boat with a 115hp Johnson. I know this may be difficult as I don't have much info on the motor itself, except that it is likely from the 90's, and it is 2 cycle.
The motor starts fine, idles perfectly with very few misses. It will move along at low throttle as well. The problem is when he tries to open it up and get the boat to plane out. It doesn't have enough power to plane out, and it seems as if he is only running at half-throttle.
He has checked the fuel lines, replaced the fuel filter, as well as checked the linkage between the carbs, and everything seems ok there. He is suspects it may be a problem with a coil, but wants to make sure he covers everything else first instead of replacing random parts!
If anyone has any ideas on possible causes of a problem like this, or can give me some idea on how to troubleshoot this problem it would be greatly appreciated. I wish I had more info to help you out, and if I can get more info, I will post it here. Thank you to everyone who read this posting!
