Low RPM for Mercruiser 3.0?

I am preatty new to boating and been reading all the post around here about RPMs at wot . My merc( gm ) 3.0 only gets 3000 - 3300 and 25 mph at WOT. The previous owner said he downgraded to 3.0 3 years ago. Does it seems too low considering the boat is a 20' Sea Sport cuddy/cruiser? Thank you

Ayuh,... It has to be geared,+ proped to run in it's rpm zone,...
You're lugging it now,... That Ain't good....

Downgraded from what? You could have the wrong gear ratio in the drive unit.

I bought the boat from a private seller. The boat was parked in the yard at marina down the block. I spoke with the mechanic there who serviced the boat supposely since it was new. My bad I did not ask what they downgraded from. Now the question is how do I find out if gear ratio is correct then what prop pitch i would need? Thank you

I'm thinking

You will have to ID the OD & make sure it matches that 3.0
Can you post a pic of her? Call the old marina and ask about the further history of the swap?

In addition to my original post.... what is proper gear ratio for merc 3.0? Tomorrow i am dropping by the marina to read gear ratio of OD cover
