I should start by saying that I'm very new to boating. I took a chance this year and purchased a brand new boat - came with the 3.0 Merc Engine.
I keep it in a slip, and I arrived last weekend to find the bilge full of water (we got a few inches of rain, and my auto-bilge switch isn't installed yet, and apparently the cover doesn't protect the boat like I thought it would).
In any case, the water never made it up to the engine (first thing I looked for) and the engine started right up. After it warmed up, I gave it full throttle to get on plane and got much less RPM than I've become accustomed to (only around 2700) - I was able to trim accordingly to plane and the RPMs went back to normal. Tried this a few times with the same result - low RPM at full throttle when getting on plane and then normal once on plane.
Any ideas? I'm clueless!
