Low RPMs after idling

I have a 1998 Evinrude 115 SPL Model #E115tslecm.

I took the boat out a couple of weeks ago and she ran fine on day one and again on day two. On day two the check engine light came on but no problems.
I took it out this past Sunday and the engine fired up and the RPMs were right where they should have been, 4800. I cruised around for a good bit. The check engine light and alarm constantly came on but no problems until I went to idle so my wife could watch the dolphins play. We idled a good two or three minutes and when I increased the throttle I stuck at 2800 RPMs at WOT. It was almost as if the engine was bogging down.Pulled it back to idle and it idled fine. 1/4 throttle fine, Half throttle to WOT bogged out again.

The water stream was good and my prop is good. Any clue as to what this might be? I want to have a decent idea of what the problem is before I take it to a shop.

Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Low RPMs after idling

First you shouldn't run it if the alarm sounds unless you know the code.
One alarm is low oil.If your not premixing then its possible the VRO(oil injection) is not working.Another alarm indicates weak fuel supply which could also affect oiling.Of course there is a overheat alarm.
The lack of rpm could be from the motor starting to seize from low oil or an over heat.Hopefully it was just a low fuel supply. Some motors have an emergency throttle limit that reduces rpm when motor is in crisis.

Thanks. I'll take it to the shop to get it looked at.

It is a pre-mix engine. The tell-tail was good. Where could I find a list of alarm codes to make a basic diagnosis?

Thanks. I talked to my old man and he seems to think that it is indeed a water pump issue due to the problem only occuring after I idle for a little bit allowing heat to build up. Any clue as to a ball park figure on replacing the water pump?
