Low Smoke after Injector & Vapor tank cleaning

I bought my 2000 25 AqualSport with a 2000 Mercury 225 EFI about 10 months ago and due busy schedule no-time to put it in the water. I would start the motor every month on the hose and it ran fine?till I let the gas go low in tank, after this the motor did not run, it would start & die. I took out all the injector & sent them out to be clean and completely clean the vapor tank(float was stuck) & replaced all filters(they were bad). Compression at 120-122, all cylinders. So now that I have the motor all put back together?I?m little bit concerned, maybe motor running too good.

The motor starts on first click, little smoke on start-up, but hardly any smoke while idle. If all is working as it should, should I see any smoke? Would you guys recommend going to premix & removing the oil pump. Motor has about 700 hours.

Thanks
Al

Re: Low Smoke after Injector & Vapor tank cleaning

The oiling system varies the oil/fuel ratio with the throttle, very light smoke at an idle with little to no smoke at throttle is not unusual. The system is quite reliable on general purpose motors, it is the racers that experience problems when turning RPM in excess of factory ratings.

While many have removed the oiling and pre-mix their fuel, far greater number of owners have successfully run factory oiling without problems.

The most important factor is to always use a quality TCW-3 oil and stay with the same oil religiously. Tho all oils may have the same TCW-3 rating, the additives used by different refineries are not always compatible with another manufacturers formula, when differing products are mixed 'may' cause thickening of the oil, possibly leading to inadequate oiling and engine damage. Select one quality brand and stay with it.

Thanks Charlie, that's the type of reply I was looking for. I'll leave the oil pump & switch to the Mercury oil, I been using the West Marine oil.
