Hellow all, first i would thank all of you for the information on carb rebuilding from a preveous post, well i have a question my low speed needles are set from the factory at about six and a half turns outwhich i belive is quit a bit, nobody has touched this motor since it was new so i know the factoty had adjusted also they had little blue plugs in the allen head of the needle, well the starting point they say in the evenrude manuel is five and three quarters and go from there, well thesr settings are usualley on the fat side so you can get the motor running and go from there. I counted the number of turns out so i can put it back in the same position what do you experts think or should i start wih the five and three quarter turns first,

thanks alley mechanic

Yes. Then put it in the water, have it in gear at idle and fine tune them. They might not end up all the same depending on the condition of the mtr.

You may start at 6 out, the important at the start point is that it is set too rich. Before adjusting, decarb the engine. Set the rpm as low as possible. Then take one at a time and start leaning out (turn in) about 1/4 at a time. When that particular cylinder 'sneezes' go back 1/2 and move to the next. Final idle rpm is set with the Low tab at the optical sensor bracket. To get it all correct, do the adjustment either with engine in a barrel at correct water height, or best with boat launched.

What Haff said....

You will do very well, and I mean VERY WELL, to be able to detect a difference between 61/2 turns and 6 turns out.
Not worth worrying about.

It is very hard to tell any difference when adjusting idle screws.

Do it in the tank...will work just fine.
