Low water PSI reading while running

Hey all,

Been getting a tricky fault that gives me the two beeps but clears all codes when I get to dock. I put my Rinda computer logger on it and ran it. The boat is happy under 3500 RPM. If I go over, it triggers the two beeps, the log says SENSOR FAULT.

Watching my log, my water pressure sensor is reading anywhere from .04 at idle to .5-.11 typically with blips up to 5 PSI. If I go WOT, it will go to 10 PSI.

I'm watching the coolant temperature parameter and it is pegged at 141. The mechanical gauge doesn't move off 160. So I feel like this reading is in error.

The pressure sensor is a year old. No salt water use and probably only 5 hours or so use. Engine is an 05 Merc 6.2 MX MPI serial starts with 0w0.

Going out to the boat tomorrow. What trouble shooting steps should I do? I imagine pull the sensor and inspect for garbage in it. What else?

I would mechanically read the pressure myself.

Makes sense...where would I pick up a gauge? Guessing just need a Home Depot water pressure gauge, hose and a barbed fitting to plug in the blue drains?

If that checks out, sensor issue?

I really apparently hadn't drank my coffee yet, I think I saw boat and repair then posted away! Yes, if I could be moved that'd be great or I can repost.

I was able to move the post over for you.

If the Rinda tech scan tool read 140 degrees then there's a really good chance that that's all it's getting up to temp wise and should be more in the 160 - 163 range on average while in a lot of cases (not all) the dash gauge tends to read more in the 170-75 range.

May want to open up and inspect and most likely change out the thermostats as it's pretty common that it needs replaced once it starts showing low temps.

Get a new sender , hook your ohm meter to it and read the resistance at various power levels. Then go to Radio Shack , buy resistors of that value and hard wire them into the harness.
Locate your temp gauge and always keep one eye on it and you`ll be just fine
