Re: lower bearing removal

You need a bearing puller or bearing separator, something similar to these:

The bearing is probably pressed on by the factory, however the easiest way for the layperson to install a new bearing is to heat it up in an oven (a toaster oven next to the workbench is handy!) to approx 150 deg for 15-20 minutes, then (with leather-gloved hands) you 'slap' it onto the crankshaft real fast like!

As soon as the bearing inner race touches the crankshaft it's starting to shrink so you have to install in one continuous, rapid motion.

If you don't get it all the way on, don't drive it on by the outer race, only apply pressure (with a pipe of suitable diameter) to the inner race or you'll ruin the bearing. A lite film of motor oil on the crankshaft end will help ease the bearing on smoothly.

Last thought, your motor should have a bearing retaining ring so make sure that's removed before trying to pull the bearing off the crankshaft.
