I have a 1975 Envinrude 75HP, that is
starved for gas on the lower cylinder.
(no power, spark fine) pulled bottom wire off
plug, no rpm change, and sprayed gas in lower carb
intake and rpm's increased)
Compression is just over 120....
So, pretty sure its the carb.
I notice the screw on the top of
lower carb, above the air intake was loose,
but tightening had no effect. Anyways,
other than taking the carbs off and cleaning,
is there anything else to check first?

I saw another post, where it was inferred that the
lower carb could be in fault before others?

Thanks,
Dan

dan-o,

Any fuel left in the lines is going to puddle in or at the bottom carb. The engine will die before all this fuel is completely burned out.

Thus, the bottom carb. is more prone to fuel deposits, gumming, etc.

Yup, djohns19 has it right. I recommend pulling the carbs and giving them a good cleaning. It wouldn't hurt to rebuild them if they haven't been done in a while. The needle/seat wear out and may require replacement. The screw above the intake that you refer to is the idle/low speed needle and should not have been loose. Rebuld kits ($15-20) will have the plastic retainers that hold the needles in place after adjustment. Do you have a manual? If not, I recommend getting one...it will help you along the way and show you how to adjust the idle/carbs/throttle/timing, etc.

Let us know how you get on.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies...
I thought that may be the case....
Will get a manual....I hate reading directions...etc
but sometimes you just have to do it....
Will be better than putting a barbecue together...lol

Dan
