Lower driveshaft seal installation orientation/alpha 1 gen 1?

Remembered that this seal was buggered last year when I replaced the impeller last year. Redoing the lower shift cable tomorrow (for the second time in 2 weeks...), and since the drive is off I figured I'd replace the seal as well. Been searching, but can't seem to find out which direction to install the seal? Also, should I pack some grease into that cavity?

The lips face up and like you said packing the cavity with grease is good insurance.

Glad I asked. I would have thought to install lip down to keep out the water...
