lower end gear oil

hi everyone what is the recomended gear oil for the lower end of my 1952 evinrude twinlight 3 hp can i use the same oil in my 80s sea king 7.5 any tips on draining and replacing would be greatly apreciated thanks for any info pauldog

Make sure you get gear oil that's desined for outboard lower units. Any brand will work, just get a quality name brand. As for draining the old oil, take out the upper and lower screws and catch the old oil in a can. When you put the new oil in, let some run straight through so it will rinse out any sludge. You will need two new seals for the drain/fill screws.

Direct drive or forward only outboards generally use Lubriplate 105 white grease or corn head grease which is sold at tractor supply outfits.
