lower end oil looks like a science experiment!

Ok I am a newb here and on my first boat, but this is puzzling....

I checked the lower end oil in my 4.3 OMC Cobra outdrive, and when I removed the check screw....green, frothy liquid oozed out the top and ran over the sides. I mean this stuff reminded me of Peter Brady's model volcano experiment on that episode of the Brady Bunch, HAHA!!

It didn't really appear milky, and we DID just get done with a trip on the lake. Maybe the oil was just agitated as I had read in another post here?

I guess I was just concerened why the oil was green...I did a search here and found that mercruiser lower end oil is green. (I have an OMC) But we were on level pavement when I checked the oil level, so why did it run out the top?

I should mention the outdrive was rebuilt in 2006 w/ receipts BUT they made mention of a quick repair to a leaking exhaust manifold, and how there was no water leaks present at the time of repair.

This is a new boat for my wife and I, posted here:

Thanks for any help.

sounds about normal.

the heat of expansion from running the drive causes the pressure.

It was filled cold, so when you open hot it overflows, not unlike a radiator

OK that makes sense, and relieves some apprehension I had regarding this newly purchased, yet old boat. I have just never seen oil look like that.

Thanks.

P.S. love the nickname, LOL.
