On '94-90hp OB some water shows up in the gearcase. I am relatively new to outboards but mechanically capable. Can anyone give me an idea of what is involved to replace the seals to prevent water in gearcase? Steps to take? pitfalls to avoid? Tools required? The Manual describes the assembly but does not show step by step process. Should this be done only by a professional? Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Lower Gearcase Seal Replacement

Don't know your skill level but it is a bit of work. You will need a special tool to remove the prop shaft carrier. Then you will need a tool to insert the seals(you might get around this if your good). Most people run the lower foot up to a shop and let them do it.
