Lower shift cable change

Hi
Another newbie question.
Roughly how do I change the lower shift cable on a 1975 mercruiser 165?
The current cable has seized and would like to change it.
I'm OK removing the top end, how to I get the bottom end?
Not had a chance to get my hands on a manual yet (have one ordered) but would like to get the boat in the water this weekend. Pick new cable up tomorrow.
All advice would be appreciated.

You need to remove the stern drive unit first... If you can't get it in forward gear that itself is going to present a challenge....
