Lower shift cable hose leak

Well I found the source of water entering my bilge, look like a split in the hose that covers the lower shift cable. My boat is a 87 with a 4.3l cobra. Not sure I can get my hands into the bad area, I was thinking of a rubber cement patch? Or is it possible to seal it from the outside where the cable passes through the transom bracket? ie pump it full of triple guard or marine sealer. I am not too keen on yanking the motor but that might be the best way, how hard is it to change that hose? Thanks for any input!

I just changed both of mine, it was a SOB but I wanted to yank the engines anyway to clean up the bilge. I couldn't find those hoses anywhere. I saw a few eBay completed auctions for a couple hundred bucks each. I ended up having them made up using hydrolic hose and fittings. If you go this route make sure the new fitting are physically the same size as the old ones or reuse the old fittings with a new ferril, its a very tight fit and I had to do some modifications to get mine to work.

Thanks JAB! I was looking at the hose connections on a gas pump today and thought they looked close to what OMC had used. Looks like I might be yanking the motor to take a better look. Just wish I could get my hands in there cause it looks like a friggin tire patch would do.

if yours is like my Sundancer forget it, the fitting is screwed into the outer transom mount, runs past 3" of transom, squished above the exhaust y pipe, and under the the rear mount and between the bell housing and starter. But I can't stress enough, make sure the new fitting is the same length and diameter. the hose probably doesn't have to be as heavy duty but I'd imagine it is because of how difficult it is to replace and fuel or hydrolic line should last longer then regular hose.
