Lower shift cable oem part # help

my lower shift cable is shot and im trying to find a oem replacement kit. I cant seem to find the part # anywhere I keep comming up with a sierra part #18-2603 but im looking for the mercruiser part # ... 1987 alpha 1 sn# ob703381 engine sn# b740551, also I keep seeing cables are the newer style? not shure what that meens. any help would be great.

newer style is the only style you will find now, i can't imagine anybody stocking the old style anymore

go to your local merc dealer and ask for an alpha shift cable kit, they will hand you a large square box after you hand them some cash/check/plastic

Thank you for the reply, but my local merc dealer is a 1.5 hr round trip + the local marinas that are close to me deal more in outboards and dont stock parts for I/O's, the internet is more economical for me.

Your old mercruiser part number was 19543T1 but now the number has superseded to mercruiser part number 865436A03, CABLE KIT, Shift. $91.92.

Hi,
Got the new shift cable and the so called special socket, problem, went well at first and I followed directiont to a t.....took the "special" 9/16 socket to the shift cable "aft" side. The brass "nut" frozen solid, added a little heat still frozen. put a little more weight on the wrench and the brass "nut" snapped off flush at the bell housing! Oh crap!,, I then drilled out the center a little so I could use an spiral flute easy out. the easy out bit hard and the "nut" still did not budge. Added a little more pressure and guess what? The snap-on easy out broke flush. Oh crap x2!!!!! I tried to drill a hole in the easy out to try to remove it but I could not find a drill bit on earth that can penitrate the metal of the easy-out.....I am at a loss right now. Any suggestions other than 5 gallons of gas and a match?

remove the housing and try drilling out as much as you can from the other side, then using a drift, try punching out the broken easy out , redrill for a 1/4 inch pipe, and using the STRAIGHT TAP( 1/4 x 28 NPST), retap the hole.
Or remove the housing and sent it to me.

Not what I wanted to hear but it is what it is, so now I have to add a bellow job etc to the list and more special tools lol. I will pull it off and get back to you of what I find.
As far as the straight tap I need is there a part # or link that somebody can help me with so I get the exact tap required. The only other "special" tools I can see I need is a bellow expander and the hinge pin tool , I have read that you can use a 6 point Allen to take it off but the hinge pin is 12 point this sounds like another issue waiting to happen,. Can one of these be purchased at a tool store if so what size is it? Or are these 12 points mercruiser only? Thank you for assistance.

to take my man card away, lol.....I figure if I mess it up I will get a used housing I found on the net for $120 w shipping, I will
Have that + invested I would think sending it out + shipping both ways to have it redone.thanks again,
