i'm just wondering what is the purpose of that long sleeve is on the outdrive end of the cable. this is the one that requires a special deep socket (or two welded together) to get over to tighten the cable in place. i put a cable on a couple of years ago and didn't have the socket so i just cut enough of the sleeve off so i could usr a regular deep socket. now i occasionally get a stall when putting into gear and i'm wondering if this might have some connection. maybe causing the shift interupt switch to engage? i tried the cable today for stiffness of movement but it seemed fine.

That is a push pull cable, and the cable core needs the sheath to support it when it pushes into FWD. You may have compromised it.

Ayuh,..... For quite a few years now, the white piece unscrews from the main housin',.....

No special socket necessary anymore,......

I agree with Dave, you no doubt shortened the life of the cable,.....

I didnt know the white sleeve would unscrew. It didnt matter anyway I needed a new cable. My sheath was busted through. I still have it and am gonna check and see if it will unscrew.
