Quite honestly, if you need a video to do that job, then you shouldn't even be attempting it. At times, the job is not only difficult and problamatic for seasoned techs depending on access and corrosion, but can turn into a very expensive bellhousing replacement if things are done wrong.

Re: lower shift cable replacement

The hardest part of the job is threading the cable through and catching it on the other side. It's sort of a 1 1/2 man job, although it can be done by 1 guy.

What I do is cut the cable in half behind the bellhousing, and cut it again inside of the boat behind the threaded rod and crimp area. Once I cut it I unscrew the old nut and yank everything out. After that I start feeding through some speaker wire from the outside to the inside. Once I have a few feet on it in, you can jump back in the boat and you should see it laying there in the bilge. Grab it and pull it. Then back from the outside, you can assemble the cable, boot, clamp in the order that it needs to go in, push the cable through the bellhousing, through the boot, and then tape it on to the speaker wire to help pull it through.

I did one last week by myself in a later model freshwater Maxuum 2350 with a 350 that was set in low and deep, with what i'll call "a medium amount of access".
It took me 6 hours to do the cable and put a water pump kit in a gen 2 drive, along with a complete gear lube change and an engine alignment. (which wasn't much, but took a nudge of 1 mount to get it dang perfect).

Some are easy.... some ain't.

ok thanks jason

guess i should go head and check alignment while it is off...i guess i will be bugging the machinists at my work to make me an alignment tool....i can ck the gimble while its off too right? or do i have to remove the transom assembly as well as the bellows?

You can stick your hand in there and give the gimbal brg. a spin and see. If you feel anything, anything at all, replace it while you have it exposed.
