lower unit 1974 johnson 50

WHAT HOLDS THE LOWER UNIT FROM DROPPING ON THIS MOTOR. jUST GOT IT AND DONT HAVE THE FACTORY MANUAL YET. CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE DO'S AND DONT'S OF THIS LOWER UNIT? ALL IWANNA DO IS REPLACE THE IMPELLER.

Disconnect the shift rod.
Remove the 4 bolts, 2 on each side.
Remove the trim tab, then remove the bolt under the trim tab.
Remove the bolt just ahead of the trim tab.
The lower unit should drop down as long as the drive shaft is not seizsd in the crankshaft.

dID EXACTLY THAT. bUT LOWER UNIT DOES NOT DROP. IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE HOLDING IT OR DOES IT NEED SOME LUBE; FINESSE

did exactly that. But lower unit does not drop. Is there something else holding it or does it need some lube; finesse

oh wait...how do u d/c the shift rod on this model?
