We ran the 35 for a couple of hours yesterday. Great day on Lake Tarpon! In increasing frequency, the motor emitted a "Thud". No change in RPM, just a noise. Upon inspection, we discovered that the prop shaft has about
3/16" to 1/4" end play. It seated toword the front of the unit and the shaft could be pulled back that much. I figured this was causing the noise. The guy who sold my neighbor this rig was not the most honest in the world.

This is a saltwater motor and every thing we do to it is an "Adventure"!

Need ideas and advice.

Bob....if it felt like you were hitting a log in the water, likely the lobes on the clutch dog and forward gear are rounded over. What the thud is, is the lobes slipping out and then jumping back in gear. If this condition has been going on for sometime, even before you got the engine, I would really open the gear case up and have a look see.

Have you checked the gear lube yet for metal shards or sparklers?
