I was changing the lower unit oil on a 1981 75 hp Evinrude and took out the Bearing Set Screw instead of the upper fill plug to allow air in so it would drain, Can I put the bearing set screw back in with out any problems?
I have not shifted into gear or cranked the motor, just drained the oil.

Re: Lower Unit Bearing Set Screw

Yes, just be sure to clean the screw and lower unit related threads with acetone, laquer thinner, some substance that will remove all oil and grease, then install the screw using loc-tite on the threads.

If the screw is a allen screw, install it so that the outer edge is flush with the lower unit..... do not screw in it further in an attempt to tighten it.

If the screw has a large philips head and is the type that obviously bottoms out, then install it accordingly.
