Lower unit bolt sealer?

In my manual it states to use OMC sealer on the lower unit bolts when reattaching it. Do I have to use OMC sealer or can I substitute never-seize or something else?

I use Anti-seize. I used to use permatex #2, but Anti-seize is better.

Ani-seize is okay for fresh water, but it's got metal in it so galvanic corrosion will occur in salt.

Any non-hardening gasket material like permatex aircraft-grade gasket sealer will work.

There are anti-seize products aplenty without metal. For example:

The metal-based products are often meant to be sacrificial, such that the metal in them will corrode rather than the bolt or motor part.

Suitability depends on the use and length of time between maintenance.

If you don't use a sealer, you may wish to consider lock washers of some kind.

Often, yes but not always. Just about anything you can get at the auto parts store is going to have some kind of metal in it, and who knows how it's going to react.

Forget the lock washers ... the stuff you put on the bolts isn't to keep them in, it's so you have a prayer of getting them out at a later date.
