Lower unit compatability question...

Will a 1974 85hp lower unit fit on a 1973 65hp motor? My 65 is a 3 cyl 650, assuming the 85 is also 3 cyl will it work?? I dont have much info on the 85 yet, but its cheaper than buying a lu for my 65 right now. The 85 has a blown piston so im wondering if I go for it and maybe down the road rebuild this while using the lu on my great running 65??

The 85 (850) is a inline 4 and uses the larger gear case (Same as the inline 6's) The inline 3 650 anf 700 used the next size smaller gear case. Sorry for the bad news.
