Lower unit compatibility

I've tried searching online and can't seem to find any references for lower unit part #s. My lower unit, 1967 950ss, has part # 1623-2460 stamped on the inside and I was wondering if one marked 1623-3912 off a 1971 Merc 800 is compatible. I realize that the gearing might be different but I can always just get a different prop. I just need to know if it will bolt up and function properly. I appreciate the help.

They will interchange (fit) but the 950 is 2 to 1 and the 800 is 2.3 to 1, in most cases you can make it up changing prop pitch.
