lower unit compatibility

I have a 1989 125 force outboard motor that needs a lower unit. My question is will or are the shafts interchangeable from a 1987 my motor is black the 87 is white i was wondering if i can put my two piece shaft in the 87 any help would be appreciated

The two piece shaft can not be swapped into or onto the one piece shaft case. The gearcases are different. HOWEVER: If the shaft length is the same, the whole lower unit can be swapped
