Re: Lower unit Evinrude 55 1969

hello
do you have the unit apart yet? there is only two solinoid coils under the fwd mounted 4 bolt plate that the wires go through. the fwd gear drives a hydraulic pump. the shift solinoids close off ports to move a plunger that is connected to the shift clutch. hence the name hydr meaning hydraulic and electric. its a hydro-electric shift.
do you have a manual now? Joe Reeves has posted all the wiring colors many many times.
good luck and post back so we can help ya

Had a great Latvian solid mechanics professor at Northwestern - John Dundurs. I can get the scanner plugged in, I send then to you. Please email me directly jslobvan@exit3.com.
