Lower Unit Feels Hot

I tried out a pontoon boat with a 97 50HP Force motor on it last night. After running it for a while and pulling it out of the water. I touched the lower unit. It felt pretty hot. Is this normal for a motor of that HP? I have a 96 120HP Force and the lower unit is always cool after running it. I did check for lower unit lube and it had some in there, I don't know how much.

Where exactly were you touching? The back of the leg can get hot around the exhaust area both at the relief ports and the snout.
