i have a 1975 johnson 135 and am draining the lower unit oil. removed both top and bottom screws and the oil drains very slowly and STINKS ... ( like nasty gear oil usually does ) ... my step dad suggested blowing in a little LOW PRESSURE compressed air to get all the oil out ... is that ok to do ??? also has anyone flushed the lower unit with a cleaner ...like diesel fuel or something that wont harm the seals or rubber parts ?? id love to flush this thing clean and get all the old nasty oil out. thanks guys, scott

If you have really rotten oil, the correct thing to do would be tear it down and reseal the unit after cleaning. For a flush I would recommend filling with fresh correct oil for the unit, running it half an hour. Gentle running in the water so the gears are loaded and everything is spinning. Take it out and do another long drain, then refill. Other cleaning fluids might have some detrimental effect on the seals and you don't want that.

Yes, you can speed up the process and put some shop air through it.

You can diesel fuel flush it if you like. Just drain it well and air helps in this process to get out your flushing agent.
