I'm replacing the prop. seals on my 1982 Johnson 25. Where the prop. housing meets the shaft, there is a strip of gasket (doesn't close). I've looked at several sites, but that particular gasket/seal is not listed for sale. It looks like it is nothing but a long (not connected) piece of O-ring. Is there o-ring material I can buy to replace it, or do I need to look further. The one I have didn't leak, prior to taking it off.

Re: Lower unit gasket

Have you looked at the parts diagram at www.shop2.evinrude.com yet? Go there and you can navigate to a complete parts diagram for your engine, and they'll have part numbers and dealer list prices for everything.

I won't pretend to know anythig about the gasket you're talking about, but if you're in need of o-ring material I'd bet that you can find what you want at www.mcmaster.com

I finally called a Johnson dealer, and as I thought, it simply comes in a roll 3/16" wide, and you order enough to go around the lower unit. I ordered some! Sorry for asking you guys this question, without calling a dealer first, but I think about this stuff in the middle of the night, when no one dealer is open. :)

I believe you are referring to the spaghetti seal, OMC part# 309044. You can buy it at your local J/E dealer.

edit: Oh, I didn't see your post. I see you found the answer.
