Lower unit gear lube question

I have twin 2001 225 Optimax's on the back of the Mako. I bought 3 qts of Qucksilver premium gear lube which was recommended to me by the boat store. Oonce I got it home I noticed in the engine manual that Mercury recommends
the gear lube with teflon. Should I return the fluid and get the stuff with the teflon or will I be okay with the premium lube?

I'm aware of no Mercury gearlube with Teflon. The green HiPerf synthetic is what we use.

The Teflon stuff is usually Spline grease, not Gear Lube. Yes, take it back and get the QuickSilver High Performace Gear Lube.

the Teflon is an additive to their grease and is in a tube.....used anyplace a grease is required. The lower unit uses oil and if you read the labels, or ask the Merc mechanic you will know which one your high HP, high performance engine requires.

Re: Lower unit gear lube question

Thanks for the clearification guys. I think that I read over it to quickly and missed the teflon part for GREASE. I looked at my bottles of gear lube this morning and it is the High Performance stuff from Quicksilver so It looks like I got the rite stuff the first time.

Thanks again for the quick responses.
