Re: Lower Unit Good Or Bad
Hard to tell if a GearCase is garbage or not by looking at the outside. Look for the obvious, spin the shaft and try to shift it. Listen for grinding, clunking or skipping or other bad noises. Pull the drain plug and look for metal chunks. Count the shaft splines and make sure they match what you have. MEASURE THE SHAFT. Find out if you have/need a preload pin in the top of the vertical shaft. Try your best to get a warranty from the seller. At the end of the day I think you are better off to have your GC repaired and get a Warranty. OR you can buy the tools for about the same cost, maybe a few hundred more, and a manual and fix it yourself. Gearcases ain't hard, just hard work.
