Hey guys I just purchased a boat with a 1989 Johnson 60 hp (3cyl). Unfortunately, the first time in the water I find that the lower unit is not working....(no reverse and trying to pop out of gear in forward gear)
. I disassembled the lower unit and the clutch dog and reverse gear are visibly damaged/rounded off at the edges. I ordered a new clutch dog and I am awaiting for the reverse gear. I guess my question is should I replace the forward gear/pinion as well? The forward gear edges seem sharp. Is there anything else I should know before I begin to put this thing back together? All the bearings look great. Tips and advice are appreciated as this is the first time i've ever torn into a lower unit. I have a Seloc manual but it doesn't give very good detail. Any suggestions? And, I have already ordered a new water pump. Thanks, Bleubeans.
