Lower unit help (PLEASE!!)

Could anyone please tell me if a lower unit from a 1978 Merc 402 will fit/work on my 1971 Merc 50 or tell me how or where I can find out.

What is your stud pattern on the 50 as there are 2 (1-11/16 & 1-13/16) and is it a standard or short shaft 50?

go to crowley marine look up the different years match part numbers there you go
