Lower unit help...

I have a 1973 50hp evinrude Mech shift...I saw this posting. How will i know if it will work. Could i just take measurements? will there be any numbers?. or for 100 should I take the chance. and at worst rebuild it once i Know what it is a re-sell it.

Three measurements are: the vertical drive shaft length, the number of splines on the prop shaft, and the diameter of the gearcase (measure at prop shaft).

For $100, I'd take a gamble. Houston, Tx market, used lower units sell for $200-300. Good Luck
