I am helping a friend replace the water pump on his '93 150 hp Merc. Got the lower unit off ok and the new water pump in, but am having a hard time getting it to go back together.<br /><br />The book indicates that the lower unit should be in forward. We put the controls in the forward position as well, but once it is together the controls are binding and it won't go in reverse. I think what is happening is it is coming out of gear as we try to connect the lower unit to the shift linkage.<br /><br />Any tricks or assistance would be greatly appreciated. We have had it on and off several times and ran out of light working on it this evening.
