Will a lower unit from a 1968 100hp inline 6 work with a 1971 65 HP 4cyl? I know the gear ratio may be different.
If not then where do I find what lower unit will work, besides one from a 1971 65 HP?

Thanks,

Direct this to Steelspike and/or Silvertip. I forget which answered pretty much the same question a few days ago. This reply will bump it up where they might see it easier.

The lower unit case is the same size from the inline 4 650 through the inline 6's. If your gears are good, then you can swap the gears in the case.

Re: Lower unit interchange.

Hmm and that's a problem, the lower unit from the 650 is trashed, owner said last season something broke in the l/u.

I can get a lower unit from a 1968 100hp inline 6 for cheap, but I am sure the gears are from the 650 are no good.

Could I get away with trying the 100hp lower unit on the 650??? Maybe???

Re: Lower unit interchange.

The 68 100hp will bolt right up, but the prop would turn faster per RPM than the 650 is capable of turning it (With any kind of performance), even when lowering the pitch. Hole shot will SUCK.
