last fall I went to winterize my 1991 force 120. the first thing I did was drain the lower unit. when I did water came out then some milky looking oil.Any way I replaced my drain plug and when I added the new oil it started leaking out by the prop shaft. would I be correct in assuming that the seal is probably shot? if so is it a big deal for me or my mechanic to replace?

Re: lower unit leak

Yes, you're correct in asuming the propshaft seal is bad. It's a very common failure, especially on fishing craft (mono likes to try to replace propshaft seals with nylon. :rolleyes:
Of course, you may have other seal issues in addition to the propshaft. But in short, get the manual, the tools, and you can do this.
Dificulty rating is a 3 out of possable 10 IMHO, and given the proper tools and such.

Here is a link that will answer most of your questions;
Lower Units basic training
