Lower unit leak???

My lower unit is leaking. I just changed the fluid for the 3rd time this season and the fluid looked like milk. So far I've changed gaskets on the plugs and just bought new plugs that have an "o" ring on them. I know about the shaft seal and the "o" ring on the carrier. Where else could the water be comming from? Shift lever seal? I'm gonna try these new plugs out this weekend. Hopefully they fix the leak.

Shift shaft, drive shaft or prop shaft.

Re: Lower unit leak???

I think it's time to drop the lower unit, pump it up with air and find the leak Rudy. If the new plugs fix it, great!

Pull the prop and look behind the thrust bushing for any fishing line. This will eat the prop shaft seals up real quick.

But the drive shaft seals and shift rod seals and bearing carrier oring will need to be under air pressure to see if they are the leakers.
