I have finally saved up enough for a new engine for my rinker fiesta vee 266 Im putting a new bobtail complete enging in next week. the boat has a bravo 2 lower unit. I am planning on replacing the water pump, and the gimbal bearing , and changing the fluid in the lower unit, as well as painting it and changing the anodes. this is a 97 model and the hours are unknown.. Is there any other maintence that should be done at this time? the boat stays in the water year round, fresh water only.....Thanks in advance

Re: lower unit Maintence

If it hasn't been done since the boat was new, I would suggest all new rubber parts below the water line. All bellows and water hose. With all that work, a new shift cable would also be in order. Since you are replacing the gimbal bearing, you might want to think about the ujoints also. They take more of a beating than the gimbal bearing. Especially if they don't have grease zirks.<br />Also, you don't have a raw water pump in the outdrive on Bravo drives. If you are getting a complete Merc bobtail, it will include a raw water pump.
