new to forum, great site. i have a 78 6hp johnson short shaft, lower unit is trashed, can anyone point me towards what other lower units and years will fit this engine? thanks
check with the salvage yards listed under Top Secret Files at the beginning of the forum...you can also compare gearcase parts numbers on sites like marineengine.com, **********....the 6 hp. has a sorta unique lower crankshaft seal setup and it may limit you to only 6hp. units being interchangeable, but I'm not certain of that
1966 to 1979 6 hp will interchange. They were also made in 1965 but the drive shaft, prop shaft & prop were different. Anyway, there were tons of those motors made so you should have no problem finding a parts motor. If you want to absolutely certain that the parts will fit, check the online parts diagrams at "shop evinrude com" and compare year by year.
