I have a 1989 Johnson 110hp, I noticed that on the lower unit there is a few holes for the water to come out for cooling the lower unit, after running it with the 'ear' plasitic covers to run water into the motor, there was oil coming out of one of the holes, are the gaskets in the lower unit shot?

Chances are what you saw is exhaust gunk coming out. You can always pull the fill plug on the lower unit to check...straight hypoid oil = good, vanilla milkshake = bad.

Re: Lower Unit, oh no.

It is just like oil, not really water/oil mix. The motor is oil injected, not sure if that could make any difference. There isnt some much oil that it drips but there is probably a half of a teaspoon or more on the lower unit. I never noticed the oil until I ran the motor and then shut it off. I am just worried that I might burn up the lower unit, I am supposed to go fishing in the morning! What do you guys think?
