I just picked up a 71' Johnson 9.5hp and I am going to change the lower unit oil. I picked up some Quicksliver SAE 90 gear lube and I noticed it was a blue color and the old oil that came out of the gear case was just normal oil color. Kinda seems like a weird question but Can I use this SAE 90 gear oil or do I need something else? If I need a difference oil, what do I need?? Thanks

It will be just fine, don't worry 'bout it.

Re: Lower Unit Oil - 71' 9.5 hp

Thanks for the response but I'm still a little learry about putting this high performance gear lube (SAE 90) in my 71' 9.5 motor. They recommend 80w-90 for this motor. Whats the difference in these oils? What's the worst that could happen if it's not the recommended gear oil for my motor?? Newbie here trying to dig for answers... Bump!
