Have a 1968 Merc 500 s/n 2479530 that is new to me. Just changed the impellar and gaskets. Want to make sure I use the right lower unit oil.

Is either of these oils the right one to use?

Any "Marine Lower Unit Oil" will work fine. Try Ace Hardware for nuts, bolts, washers, they keep a good selection and quite a bit in Stainless Steel. True Value Hardware keeps a lot of fasteners too. Good Luck!

The merc high performance LU oil is a superior product, well worth the extra money.

Second. And you aren't talking about a whole lot of lube to start with. (My 500 holds about a pint) At wally world, they have a slick little pump that Atwood makes that makes putting it in a snap, too.
