Re: lower unit oil

You're correct, the gear housing lubricant capacity is approximately 11.5 fl. oz. (340 ml). Are you sure you let it drain out completely prior to re-filling? You might try rotating the prop shaft, and tapping gently on the gearcase with a -soft- mallet to pursuade any entrapped air out the vent.

Is the gearcase sitting truly vertical? I'd let it rest for a while, and see if the air works its way out, allowing more lubricant to be added.

Seems odd you can only get 65% of the lubricant in there, unless it has an air pocket or was not completely empty, or was filled to quickly creating a lot of small bubbles in the lubricant.

If it is really cold where you are, the oil viscosity may be making it difficult to vent.... fill it -slowly- from the bottom.

Good luck.

Did you remove the vent plug when you drained it?

How many ounces is 225 grames? What's a gram???

It shouldn't take 2 minutes to put in the gear lube, What kind of gear lube did you use?

There could also be a slight difference in the amount it takes, just by the casting and machining process.

Grams is a weight measure not a liquid volume. They don't really compare. Ounces as in weight(pounds) does not compare to ounces as in liquid either.
