Lower unit on 60's Merc??

How much lube should it take to fill a 50hp Merc and where is the vent hole located to know when it is full or do I use the hole marked flush?

There should be a separate screw for the vent. Some older engines had a small screw for the vent. The Flush goes right in to the water pump base and is where you would put an adapter to run the engine instead of muffs.

Still haven't seen your s/n but in this link you will see the:

Flush plug, item 33 (larger of the three)
Vent plug, item 36
Fill/Drain plug, item 31

You seem to know where the Flush plug is and your vent plug should be just forward and slightly lower than the Flush plug.

Carholme I had the serial number and left it in the boat. I will try to get it. Really appreciated the info. Where is a good place to get a manual then my problems can be alot easier to find out.

Unfortunately for the older engines, we are not left with much choice:

90-25500 All models, 1965 and Prior All s/ns

90-68647 All Models, 1966 through 1974 All s/ns
