Lower Unit on 85HP Force.

I am getting a used Lower Unit to replace my existing one for my 85HP Force 1989 Model. When I put the replacement one, do I have to put the gasket between the upper body of the motor and the lower unit or no? Or can I seal it by silicon outside after inserting it? Thanks for your help as I am new to this.

you don't need to seal it - just torque the 7 bolts to 160 inch pounds - that about 15 foot lbs. That 7th bolt is under the exhaust snout - remember this is aluminum so don't kill the bolts.

GREASE and lots of it on the bolts and clean the threads before reinstalling.
