Lower unit/outdrive testing....

I have a silly question to ask.

Is it ok to test a lower unit/outdrive with muffs and at the same time submerge it in a water tank? I believe this will allow me to rev my engine and at the same time create enough resistance on the prop to keep the motor from over reving.
I need to use the muffs to guarantee circulation through out the lower unit and motor.

Why? even with muffs you could have low water pressure to damage the impeller at hi rpm`s.

Never( REV IT UP) on the hose or in a bucket.There just ain't enough water in the hose or bucket.You might be able to do it for a short time but it can collapse the hose and run the pump dry.J

I would think that it would instantaniously empty any container you could put under it.

Thank you all for sharing. Cavitating the pump was always a concern. Just as an fyi, I was only planning on 1500-2000 rpms. I just wasn't sure if even that was going to be too much.
