lower unit problem/lack of speed

5.7 mercruiser alpha one with full throttle today only got to 2200 rpm or 23 mph. Noise from lower unit louder than normal. Boat ran ok but no speed at full throttle.

I would be looking at your Gear oil as you should not be hearing ANY noise from it <br /><br />tommays
